Gurveen & Jeff’s Beach Elopement in Tofino, BC
Picture this: a private elopement on the beaches of Tofino, followed by a privately-catered dinner, sunset smores, and a candlelit vow exchange—all with your corgi by your side. What more could you ask for, really?
For Gurveen and Jeff, this wasn’t just a dream. This was their reality. And I had the pleasure of photographing it! In May of last year, I received an inquiry from Vancouver-based couple Gurveen and Jeff. After 6.5 years together, they were heading to Tofino in August to elope—and although it was a last minute request—hoped that I could join them and document it. As fate would have it, my schedule was free that weekend! I was ecstatic. I love Tofino weddings. Why? Tofino is effortlessly beautiful. And no matter who visits, they come away with memories unique to them. For a popular tourist destination, there’s nothing cliché about it. Gurveen and Jeff stayed at the Wickaninnish Inn—a boutique hotel perched on Chesterman Beach about five kilometers from Tofino. It boasts a private beach, called Shell Beach, which is where Gurveen and Jeff spent their special day. It offered them exactly what they wanted: a low-key, private setting nestled within the forest and the sea—just the two of them and their “Pup of Honour,” Roy. (Can we talk about how cute that is?) I loved how they made their elopement true to them. They incorporated sunset smores in the schedule, keeping the day fun and low-key. Gurveen wore a beautiful dress that celebrated her Indian heritage. They Facetimed their parents. And they brought Roy, who has been by their side throughout their relationship.
The whole day was a photographer’s dream too! Because it was on a private beach, there were no people in the background. As it was an afternoon in August, the weather was lovely—and offered picture-perfect natural lighting. The ocean’s waves created a backdrop that looked like a painting. What more could I ask for? Although Gurveen and Jeff approached their elopement with a relaxed, carefree attitude, they did mention in the inquiry that they wanted to highlight the vow exchange. So when the moment came, we dressed up the beach with candles and a fire. The soft glow was just what we needed to make it extra special. I’m so honoured to have captured such a beautiful, private moment for Gurveen and Jeff. And I’m so happy to be able to share these photos with all of you!
